What the job involves

As a Full Stack Developer in proptech and construction tech, you build and maintain web applications that connect property buyers, sellers, agents, and construction teams. Day to day you work on both frontend (React/Angular) and backend (Node.js/Java/Python), integrate property listing databases, maps, search filters, and CRM tools. You also handle performance, security, and scalability for high-traffic real estate platforms.

Role and Technical Knowledge

  1. 1

How would you design a REST API for a property listing platform that supports filters like price range, location, and property type?

Mention pagination, query parameters, indexing on filter fields, and returning only needed fields. Discuss caching for popular searches.

  2. 2

Explain how you would implement a map-based search where users draw a polygon to find properties within that area.

Talk about storing coordinates as geospatial data (e.g., GeoJSON), using spatial indexes, and querying with point-in-polygon or bounding box. Mention frontend libraries like Leaflet or Google Maps.

  3. 3

What is the difference between SQL and NoSQL databases, and which would you choose for storing property listings and why?

Compare structure, scalability, and query flexibility. For proptech, a relational DB with geospatial extensions or a document store with geospatial indexing both work; justify based on read/write patterns.

  4. 4

How do you handle authentication and authorization for different user roles (buyer, seller, agent, admin) in a full stack app?

Cover JWT or session-based auth, role-based access control, and securing APIs. Mention password hashing and HTTPS.

Practical Scenarios

  1. 5

A property search page is loading slowly because it fetches thousands of listings. How would you optimise it?

Suggest pagination or infinite scroll, lazy loading images, server-side caching, database indexing, and reducing payload with field selection.

  2. 6

You need to add a feature where users can schedule site visits with agents. Outline the frontend and backend steps.

Frontend: calendar UI, form validation, API calls. Backend: endpoints for availability, booking, notifications, and conflict checks. Mention database schema for appointments.

  3. 7

How would you integrate a third-party CRM or property feed into your platform without breaking existing features?

Talk about API contracts, data mapping, error handling, rate limiting, and testing with mocks. Suggest a separate service or adapter layer.

  4. 8

A bug is reported where users in some cities see incorrect property prices. How do you debug and fix it?

Check data pipeline, currency or unit conversion, regional settings, and caching. Use logs, reproduce with test data, and add validation.

Behavioural and HR

  1. 9

Why do you want to work in proptech and construction tech rather than a general software company?

Show interest in real estate digitisation, solving local problems like verified listings or construction tracking, and mention any project or research you did.

  2. 10

Describe a time you had to learn a new technology quickly for a project. How did you approach it?

Use STAR method: situation, task, action, result. Highlight self-learning, documentation, and applying it to deliver a working feature.

  3. 11

Tell me about a project where you worked in a team. What was your role and how did you handle disagreements?

Focus on collaboration, communication, and conflict resolution. Mention specific tools like Git, code reviews, or stand-ups.

  4. 12

Where do you see yourself in three years as a full stack developer in this sector?

Show ambition to grow into a senior or lead role, deepen domain knowledge in proptech, and contribute to scalable products.

Problem Solving and Coding

  1. 13

Write a function to find all properties within a given radius from a user's location, given a list of properties with latitude and longitude.

Use Haversine formula or spatial index. Explain time complexity and how you would handle large datasets with database queries instead of in-memory.

  2. 14

Given an array of property prices, find the maximum profit if you buy and sell once, but you must buy before you sell.

Classic max profit problem. Discuss single pass solution and edge cases like empty array or decreasing prices.

  3. 15

How would you implement a debounce function for a search input that filters property listings as the user types?

Explain debouncing concept, use setTimeout and clearTimeout, and mention applying it in React with useEffect or custom hook.

  4. 16

Design a database schema for a construction project management tool that tracks tasks, materials, and workers.

Outline tables for projects, tasks, materials, workers, and assignments. Discuss relationships, indexes, and soft deletes.

Coding round

Full Stack Developer interviews usually include a coding round. Practise planning the solution out loud, then review code the AI writes from your plan, in Python, Java, C++, C or JavaScript.

Ready to try it for real?

Take a timed test or talk through a mock interview for this role, then see your scores.

This is practice material for Full Stack Developer roles, written with AI. It is not a list of questions Magicbricks Tech or any other company has asked.
