AI-Assisted Coding Rounds: Code with AI, Graded on Your Thinking

Practise AI-assisted coding rounds: explain the problem and plan your approach, let the AI write code from your plan, then review and fix it. Graded on your thinking, not just whether it compiles. Free on every plan, and it doesn't use your interview credits.

6
problem categories, from arrays to SQL and debugging
5
languages: Python, Java, C++, C and JavaScript
20-45
minute rounds, graded with a full scorecard

How an AI-assisted coding round works

The AI won't solve the problem until you explain it. Each planning step is checked, with coaching when something is missing, before the AI writes any code.

  1. 1

    Restate the problem

In your own words, before any code is written.

  2. 2

    Inputs, outputs and edge cases

Including the cases the examples leave out.

  3. 3

    Choose the data structures

And say why they beat the obvious alternative.

  4. 4

    Plan the approach

Step by step, with time and space complexity.

  5. 5

    Generate the code with AI

The assistant writes it from your plan, not the problem.

  6. 6

    Review, refine and submit

Run it, fix what is wrong, and own the result.

Six problem categories, from arrays to SQL and debugging

Pick a category, a difficulty (Easy, Medium or Hard) and a round length of 20, 30 or 45 minutes.

  • Arrays & Strings

Scanning, two pointers, in-place work on sequences.

  • Hashing & Maps

    Counting, grouping and lookup-driven solutions.

  • Trees & Graphs

Traversal, recursion over structures, shortest paths.

  • Recursion & DP

Subproblems, memoisation, building up from base cases.

  • Debug the Function

Broken code is already in the editor. Find out why, then fix it.

  • SQL

Query a small schema. Runs in your browser, no compiler needed.

Practise coding rounds in Python, Java, C++, C and JavaScript

Your code is run against test cases before you submit. SQL problems run on a small schema in your browser, with no compiler needed.

Python coding round practice

The quickest way to get a plan into working code. Practise explaining why a dict or a set beats a list, and what your slicing costs.

Java coding round practice

The language most service-company coding rounds expect. Practise choosing between HashMap, ArrayList and arrays, and handling nulls and overflow.

C++ coding round practice

For rounds that care about speed. Practise talking through STL choices like vector, unordered_map and priority_queue, and their complexity.

C coding round practice

Still common in ECE and core-branch rounds. Practise reviewing AI-written code for array bounds, pointer mistakes and memory you forgot to free.

JavaScript coding round practice

For web and full-stack roles. Practise spotting off-by-one errors, type coercion surprises and mutation in code the AI hands you.

Graded on your thinking, not just whether it compiles

Every round ends with a full scorecard. 60 of the 100 marks are for your process, before and around the code; the rest are for the result.

  • Problem Framing15 marks
  • Prompt Quality20 marks
  • Technical Approach15 marks
  • AI Collaboration & Review10 marks
  • Correctness25 marks
  • Code Quality10 marks
  • Efficiency & Independence5 marks

Coding interviews vs AI-assisted coding rounds

Cynchrony has two different ways to practise coding, and they test different things.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI-assisted coding round?

It is a coding round where you work with an AI assistant instead of writing every line yourself. You restate the problem, cover inputs, outputs and edge cases, choose the data structures and plan the approach. The AI writes code from your plan, and you review, fix and submit it.

Is AI-assisted coding free on Cynchrony?

Yes. AI-assisted coding rounds are included in every plan, including Free, and they do not use your interview credits.

How is it different from a coding interview?

A coding interview is a type of AI mock interview where an interviewer asks coding questions and follow-ups out loud. An AI-assisted coding round is its own module: you plan the solution, the AI writes the code from your plan, and you are graded on the whole process. Coding interviews are on paid plans; AI-assisted coding is on every plan.

Which languages and topics can I practise?

Python, Java, C++, C and JavaScript, across six categories: arrays and strings, hashing and maps, trees and graphs, recursion and dynamic programming, debugging a broken function, and SQL.

How is a round graded?

Every round ends with a scorecard. Most of the marks are for your process: how you framed the problem, the quality of your prompts, your technical approach and how you reviewed the AI's work. The rest are for the outcome: whether the code is correct, its quality and how efficiently you got there.

Can our college run AI-assisted coding rounds for a batch?

Yes. Colleges and training centres can build their own rounds, run them proctored with camera recording, and see every student's scorecard by department, year and batch.
