7-Day Interview Preparation Plan: Practise Free on Cynchrony

A 7-day interview preparation plan works best as one focused task a day: find your role's rounds and self-assess (Day 1), fix weak topics (Day 2), practise HR (Day 3) and technical (Day 4) rounds out loud, add a coding round or Role Play (Day 5), rehearse the company round (Day 6), then run everything end to end (Day 7).

With an interview a week away, most freshers do everything at once: videos, question lists, late-night revision. By the day they have read a lot and said very little out loud. A week is enough if each day has one job. This plan gives every day a time budget, a task and a simple test for whether you're ready to move on, with a branch split on Day 5: a coding round for CS and IT students, and a conversation round for MBA, BBA and sales or service roles. Each step uses a module on Cynchrony, which is free to start; you sign up with email.

Key takeaways

  • Give each day one job: find gaps, fix gaps, then practise one round at a time
  • Self-assess before you revise, so Day 2 goes on the topics that need it
  • Practise every round out loud; reading answers isn't the same as giving them
  • Split Day 5 by role: an AI-assisted coding round for CS and IT, Role Play for sales, service and management roles
  • Make Day 6 company-specific and Day 7 a full rehearsal in the real order

What does a 7-day interview preparation plan look like?

The plan moves from finding out what the interview tests, to fixing gaps, to practising each round out loud, to one full rehearsal. Budget about 60 to 90 minutes a day; Days 5 and 7 take longer. The order matters. Self-assessing before you revise stops you spending days on topics you already know, and the HR round comes before the technical round because every round starts with your introduction.

  • Day 1: Find your role in the Job Prep Library and take its self-assessment (about 60 minutes)
  • Day 2: Take assessments on your two weakest topics (60 to 90 minutes)
  • Day 3: HR mock interview, out loud (about 60 minutes including review)
  • Day 4: Technical or domain mock interview (about 75 minutes including review)
  • Day 5: AI-assisted coding round (CS/IT) or Role Play (MBA, BBA, sales and service roles) (60 to 90 minutes)
  • Day 6: Mock interview set to your target company or job description (about 60 minutes)
  • Day 7: Full run-through and a final review of all your feedback (about 2 hours)

How should you start on Days 1 and 2?

Day 1 is about finding out what you're preparing for. Open the Job Prep Library, which has guides for 2,712 roles across 25 sectors (as of October 2026), and search for your company and role, for example TCS Test Engineer. Each role page lists the rounds commonly reported for that role, sample questions and the skills to revise. Read it, then take the free self-assessment on the same page in one sitting, without notes. Ready to move on when: you can name the rounds you'll face and your two weakest topics. Day 2 is for those two topics. Revise each for 20 to 30 minutes, then take an assessment on it. Cynchrony generates aptitude, reasoning, verbal, coding and domain assessments for any topic you type in, with results at the end. Ready to move on when: you know which question types in each weak topic still trip you up.

  • Take the assessment timed, because the real online test usually is
  • Write down the questions you got wrong and why; you'll re-read them on Day 7

How do you practise the HR and technical rounds on Days 3 and 4?

This is where you stop reading and start answering out loud. On Day 3, start an AI mock interview, choose the Behavioural interview type and add your target company if you have one. Expect "Tell me about yourself", "What are your strengths?" and "Why this role?". The AI interviewer asks follow-up questions based on what you say, so a vague answer gets a "Can you give an example?". Read the feedback, fix one thing and repeat the hardest question. Ready to move on when: your introduction lands in 60 to 90 seconds without notes, and each strength you claim comes with one example. On Day 4, practise the technical or domain round. Choose the Technical interview type and a focus area such as SQL or verbal technical questions, or enter a domain role such as data analyst or test engineer. Freshers are often asked about their final-year project: what you built, why that approach and what you'd change. Ready to move on when: you can explain your project in two minutes and say "I'm not sure, but here's how I'd work it out" instead of going silent. These two rounds are also the most practised on the platform: technical rounds make up 40% and HR rounds 33% of the 4,512 interview sessions on Cynchrony (as of 3 October 2026; platform usage, not placement outcomes).

  • Answer the follow-up, not the question you prepared for
  • Fix one thing per session; trying to fix everything at once changes nothing

Should Day 5 be a coding round or a Role Play?

CS, IT and other students heading for coding roles: do one AI-assisted coding round. You restate the problem in your own words, list the inputs, outputs and edge cases, choose the data structures and plan the approach with its time and space complexity. Only then does the AI write code, from your plan, and you review, refine and submit. The whole process is graded with a scorecard, and it doesn't use interview credits. There are 6 problem categories, from arrays to SQL and debugging, in Python, Java, C++, C or JavaScript, and rounds run 20 to 45 minutes. Ready to move on when: you can explain your plan before any code is written, and you have tested the AI's code against your edge cases. Practise an AI-assisted coding round on Cynchrony: free on every plan. MBA and BBA students, and anyone heading for sales, service or management trainee roles: practise one Role Play conversation, such as a sales call or a customer complaint. An AI persona plays the other side and responds to what you actually say, and you get a scored report afterwards. Run the same scenario twice. Ready to move on when: your second attempt handles the pushback you fumbled the first time.

  • Not sure which you need? Check the rounds on your Day 1 role page

How do you prepare for a specific company on Day 6?

A generic HR round and a company's HR round aren't the same practice. On Day 6, set up a mock interview with your target company added, or paste the job description so the questions follow the skills it lists. Prepare "Why this company?" with one specific reason from the company's own careers page or the job description. Ready to move on when: your answer would not make sense if you swapped in another company's name. Company questions on Cynchrony follow the pattern commonly reported for that company's rounds; they aren't the exact questions any company will ask, and Cynchrony is not affiliated with the companies named.

  • Re-read the official notice or careers page for dates, timings and documents
  • Match one example from your projects to each key skill in the job description

What should the Day 7 run-through include?

Day 7 is a dress rehearsal. Do the rounds in the order the company runs them: a short assessment, then the technical or domain mock interview, then HR. Use a quiet room, camera and microphone ready, no notes on screen. Then spend 30 minutes on review. Put the feedback from Days 3, 4 and 6 side by side and find the comment that appears more than once; the real interviewer is likely to notice it too. Finish with your Day 2 list of missed questions. Ready when: you have completed every round once without stopping, and you know what you'll say if your weak spot comes up.

  • Prepare two questions to ask the interviewer
  • Keep documents, ID and the venue or meeting link ready the evening before

How can a placement officer run this plan for a whole batch?

The same seven days work for a whole batch before a campus drive. With Cynchrony On-Demand, a placement team shares the drive date, the company or role pattern and the eligible batches, and the practice drive is configured to match. Students practise in parallel from their own devices, and the team reviews participation, results and recurring skill gaps in a readiness report before the drive. There is no setup fee for On-Demand; institutional plans are by proposal.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is 7 days enough to prepare for an interview? — For a fresher with the basics in place, yes, if each day has one clear task and you practise out loud. If Day 1 shows several weak topics, spread Days 1 and 2 over more days.
  • Can I follow this plan on Cynchrony's Free plan? — Mostly. The Free plan includes 2 interview credits with AI feedback, up to 3 assessments and AI-assisted coding rounds, which don't use credits. Spend your credits on the rounds you're least sure of; the pricing page lists plans with more sessions.
  • I'm not from computer science. Does this plan still work? — Yes. HR, behavioural and managerial rounds work for any role, and the Job Prep Library covers sectors beyond IT. On Day 5, choose Role Play for a customer-facing role or a domain mock interview for your branch.
  • Will following this plan get me selected? — No plan can promise that. It makes sure you have practised every round you're likely to face and fixed what the feedback showed, so the real interview isn't your first attempt.

Conclusion

A week is enough when every day has a task and a clear finish line. Find out what the interview tests, fix the two gaps that matter most, and say your answers out loud until the feedback changes. The real interview then feels like your fourth or fifth attempt, not your first. Start Day 1 tonight: pick your role in the Job Prep Library and take the free self-assessment.
